Objective: 

The course will enable the students to- 

 

  1. During the process of copying an antique work of art, students will be able to develop a greater understanding of the artwork
  2. Celebrate the genius of earlier master artists by step by step recreation of their work.
  3. Imbibe some of the techniques of master artists along the way.
  4. Understand how these famous portraits exemplify proportions, compositional sense, balance, rhythm etc.

The students will -

 

CO155: Plan to position a live model and note the anatomical details of the model, rethinking and sketching out their anatomy on a 2D surface to get confirm idea of what they have to make in 3D. 

CO156:Develop understanding of human proportions with respect to its head as a unit so as to construct a proper armature according to the live model. 

CO157:Moderate the application techniques of clay on a well built armature in a way that structure, proportion etc. can be replicated from a given live reference so that the students’ observation of human body increases multiple folds.

CO158:Managing the weight of clay on the armature balancing out the weight distribution to understand the balance associated with the proportions of human body. 

CO159: Measure the proportions of live model to be able to scale up or scale down the measurements according to their size of the sculpture. 

CO160: Apply clay in accordance to the muscles of the body memorizing the each important muscles in the body part so that they can later twist and turn these muscles, resizing body according to their aesthetic.

 

Approach in teaching:

Interactive Lectures, Discussion on composition subjects, Tutorials, Videos, Demonstration, Reading assignments.

Sketching, lay outing, Self-learning assignments, Effective questions, presentation, Giving tasks, Field practical, handling of various mediums of art.

Semester end examinations, Continuous Assessment Test, Sketching, layouts Viva-Voice on display of artworks, Continuous Quizzes, Solving problems in tutorials, Assignments, Presentation, Individual and regular submission.

COURSE CONTENT:

Head study (Antique – Roman, Greek, Renaissance etc.)- building of armature, study in drawing and modeling in clay. Understanding of structure and proportion mould and casting

 

Submission:

  • 1 half life (sitting) study casted in plaster + 2 study in clay
  • 20 sketches and Drawing
