Objective: 

The course will enable the students to Acquire Knowledge on preparations of composition on plate/surfaces with various experiments for textural and tonal values and printing in various techniques like Dry point, Aquatint, Etching, Engraving, Photo etching etc. Facilitated an effective knowledge of exhibiting the art works.

Methods and Materials (Theory)

CO1: Develop an understanding    of various types of relief textures based drawings and compositions done    by    the               printmakers using different tools, printing techniques,             methods  and materials.

CO2: Formulate various textural and tonal values based art work with different techniques in intaglio process like Dry point, Aquatint,       Etching, Engraving, viscosity and Photo etching.

CO3: Create various types of Lithography texture based drawings and compositions done by the artist using different tools, printing techniques, methods and materials.

CO4: Compose various types of silk-screens using direct and indirect printing methods.

CO5: Create various prints with combined printing mediums.

CO6: Contribute effectively in course-specific interaction.

Approach in teaching: Interactive Lectures, Discussion, Tutorials, Reading assignments, Demonstration.

Relief Process
  • Selection of Materials, preparation of surface for various textures.
  • Preparing design and transferring on selected materials, cutting of material and preparing the printing surface.
  • Printing of prepared blocks. Determine registration for printing of editions.

Intaglio Process
  • Selection of materials preparations and application of dry and liquid grounds. Study of various chemicals and mordents.
  • Preparation of composition on plate with various experiments for textural and tonal values. Different techniques like Dry Point, Aquatint, Mezzotint, Etching, Engraving, Photo Etching etc.
  • Printing techniques such as viscosity.

Lithography (Planography)
  • Preparation of surface polished & fine grained experiments with line, tone & texture.
  • Understanding the chemical properties of Litho surface Printing.

Screen Printing
  • Preparations of Screen, Selection of various grades of Nylon, cloth and stretching of cloth.
  • Preparation of design by paper stencil, direct method and Indirect Method.
  • Printing & Registration for one and multicolor printing.
