‘15th Abhivyakti Ek Prayas’ The Annual Art Exhibition, March 2015

Abhivakti …ek prayas is an annual art exhibition held by the students of Department of Visual Arts, The IIS University, Jaipur. It is conducted at Jawahar Kala Kendra art gallery every year as a conclusive display of the work of art created within the academic year by students of the department. Its 15th Annual Art Exhibition was held in the year 2014-15, the show was inaugurated by Sh. Shilendra Agarwal,IAS, Principal Secretary of Govt. of Rajasthan,Jaipur on February 29, 2015. The exhibition showcases work from all genres explored by students. The range of work includes Still Life,Basic Design, Tempera, Graphics, Lino Prints , Wood cut Prints, Sculpture, Painting, Photography, Magazine ad, Study work, Campaigns etc. The exhibition gives an insight of the overall growing process of a student.As one enters the gallery they witness the introductory first year work by the students  including  works of still life with plant and object studies, graphic work of lino and woodcut , basic design, and painting through tempera technique, illustrations  photography and mural work.  Moving ahead one can see the work of the senior students of Applied Art which include press ads, magazine ads, computer graphics, photography and compositions. Along with them  graphic works including multicoloured complex wood cut prints are displayed.  How a student interprets the brief and is ready for the market can be seen through the work of the senior batch including magazine ads, book covers, packaging, poster ads, ambient ads and photography. The Master’s students displayed their illustrations, caricatures of famous personalities,magazine ads on brands and events like food festivals and NGO blogs and websites. The finesse of the sculpture was enough to tell about the capabilities of the sculpture students. Students displayed her beautiful compositions in various mediums, forms of expression through figurative form. Students pursuing sculpture showcased their works in mediums like metal, stone fibre cast etc. Painting students created imaginative and skilful compositions, and head study work in various mediums and techniques.

Every year students practice and experiment with different techniques of art. In total, 129 students of the Department of Visual Arts displayed around 1500 artwork in various fields of art in this year’s exhibition. Dr. Ashok Gupta, Vice-Chancellor, IIS University, congratulated all the participants for their untiring efforts towards putting this exhibition together. Such shows introduce them to professional practices they will come across in their field, such as working with a gallery, preparing and then displaying their work for exhibition and engaging in the jurying process that is essential for an emerging artist. This is a necessary component for resume building and establishing themselves as practicing artists once they graduate or transfer to a four-year college.
