The Department of Applied Arts & Sculpture, IIS (deemed to be a University), organized a “Heritage Photo Walk in Jaipur's Walled City” and “Chai pe Charcha” on October 27, 2024, under the banner of the Indian Knowledge System to provide students with a unique opportunity to explore the city's rich cultural heritage and hone their photography skills.
The Jaipur photo walk was a vibrant journey through the city's historic sites, temples, and marketplaces, offering a unique perspective into its cultural heritage. We began at the iconic Hawa Mahal, capturing its intricate Rajasthani architecture in the soft morning light, before moving on to the Old Vidhan Sabha, where students photographed its unique blend of colonial and traditional designs.
A stop at Phool Mandi (the flower market) added a burst of color and energy to the walk, allowing students to capture candid scenes of local trade and the daily hustle and bustle of vendors and buyers. This was followed by visits to Ramchandra Ji Mandir, a historic temple dedicated to Lord Ram and Govind Dev Ji Temple. It is renowned for its aarti ceremonies and lively celebrations, reflecting Jaipur’s devotion to Krishna. The final temple, Brij Nidhi Mandir, offered quieter moments to focus on detailed shots of its stone carvings.
Throughout, alumni joined the group, sharing insights and tips that enriched the experience. These interactions enriched the photo walk, and guided the best angles and tips on capturing architectural details, adding to the students' skills. This photo walk provided stunning photographic opportunities and a deeper understanding of Jaipur’s history and daily life, making it a meaningful and memorable event for all.
