National Painting Camp 07th-13th April 2016

Twelve Artists from various states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan states participated in the camp to share artistic practices and ideas. All faculty members of the Department of Visual Arts also participated in the camp. The eminent artist from Jaipur, Kalavid Prof Veerbala Bhavsar was the chief guest on the occasion who inaugurated this grand camp along with the participants. Dr Ashok Gupta, Vice-Chancellor of The IIS University welcomed the artists. He addressed the gathering by saying that department of visual arts is vibrant, colourful and dynamic and we have already seen the creativity of students and faculty members in Abhivyakti – An Art Exhibition. But this time, it proves to be a platform for the artists of national repute to share their art forms and creativity with the students. He also said that this camp will be organized in the coming years as well. This camp was an effort to motivate and gage the talent of budding artists and to create awareness of visual arts among Indian art circle. Based on their experience in various painting styles, artists rediscovered the possibilities of painting canvases with the relevant new techniques they knew about. Several events, interactive sessions and discussions were held on the current art scenario among the participating artists to create awareness amongst the general public. It began with the live demo from Prof Veerbala Bhavsar. The blank white canvas took shape within few seconds and the finished artwork was nothing short of an exquisite and mesmerizing painting. With a few strokes of colour she soon created a beautiful painting depicting beauty of nature. A mud-hut surrounded with greenery embedded with a message to love the nature and respect the exquisiteness of old things. Enthusiastic participants, students and other faculty members got chance to interact and learn from each other’s prolific skills. The event received an overwhelming response due to the cooperation of artists, fraternities and art lovers who flocked to the camp to participate in the interactive discussions on art work. The camp also acted as a valuable platform for exchange of art and ideas of different regions as well as to give experience to the participating artists in their artistic fields.
