The Department of Applied Arts & Sculpture, IIS (deemed to be University), organized a Photography Competition on the occasion of World Photography Day, which is celebrated globally every year on 19th August. The event aimed to celebrate photography as a powerful medium of visual expression and to encourage students to explore the art of storytelling through their lenses.

This year’s theme, “Everyday Moments, Timeless Frames,” invited participants to capture the beauty found in ordinary, everyday scenes — moments that are often overlooked but become powerful when viewed through a creative perspective. The theme aimed to inspire students to observe their surroundings more deeply and transform fleeting instances into lasting visual narratives.

The competition was open to all the students of the university. A total of 65 entries were received, divided into two sections — one for Fine Arts students and one for Non-Fine Arts students. A large number of enthusiastic entries poured in from various departments, reflecting a wide range of interpretations, styles, and emotions. Each participant was allowed to submit one original photograph along with a title. While basic photo editing was allowed, the emphasis remained on authenticity, originality, and emotional impact.

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who explored diverse themes through their lenses. The subjects captured ranged from the vibrancy of street life and the serenity of nature to glimpses of daily routine work, expressive shots of animals and birds, and creative experiments with perspective. Each photograph reflected the individuality of the participant, portraying unique stories hidden within ordinary surroundings and highlighting the power of observation and imagination in photography.

The entries were judged by Mr. Shwet Goel, Associate Professor, Department of Applied Arts & Sculpture. He evaluated the submissions on parameters such as composition, creativity, thematic relevance, and technical execution. His keen eye for detail and artistic sensitivity ensured a fair and insightful judgment process.

All the entries were curated and displayed in a photography exhibition held at the department. The exhibition attracted attention from faculty members, students, and visitors who appreciated the diverse visual interpretations of everyday life. It served as an inspiring space where creative talent was celebrated and shared with the university community.

The event highlighted that sometimes, the most powerful frames are hidden in the simplest of moments — waiting to be seen, felt, and captured.
