The School of Fine Arts recently hosted an exciting photography competition on 22nd August, 2024, themed “Monsoon Moments,” which saw enthusiastic participation from 53 students. The competition was divided into two categories: photographs clicked by mobile phones and those clicked with cameras. This division allowed participants to showcase their skills using different devices, highlighting the imagination and creativity of the students.
The theme “Monsoon Moments” inspired a wide array of submissions, capturing the essence of the rainy season. Students submitted images of people enjoying the rain, the scenic beauty of nature during and after the rain, and some even captured the rain itself. There were also stunning photographs of mountains during the monsoon, each image telling a unique story of the season. In the mobile phone category, students wielded their smartphones like magic wands. They snapped candid shots of rain-kissed streets, friends huddled under umbrellas, and raindrops creating ripples in puddles. These images were raw, unfiltered, and brimming with spontaneity. The mobile photographers revealed in the immediacy—the ability to freeze a moment with just a tap, capturing fleeting instances with ease. They embraced the imperfections of mobile photography, presenting a fresh and relatable perspective. The camera category, on the other hand, armed with DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, saw participants taking a different approach, featuring more technically refined images that showcased the depth and detail achievable with professional equipment. Their lenses captured rain-soaked landscapes, mist-shrouded hills, and rainbows peeking through clouds. The meticulous attention to detail and artistic composition in this category highlighted a more deliberate and polished approach, making each photograph a work of art. The contrast between the two categories highlighted the diverse approaches and perspectives of the participants, celebrating the unique capabilities of both mobile and professional photography. The photographs were displayed in the department, allowing viewers to appreciate the immense talent and creativity of the students. The event not only celebrated the artistic talents of the students but also fostered a sense of community and shared appreciation for the beauty of the monsoon season. It provided a platform for students to express their creativity and explore their passion for photography.
