The School of Fine Arts at IIS (deemed to be University), Jaipur, successfully hosted the 23rd edition of its acclaimed annual art exhibition, Abhivyakti Ek Prayaas. Spanning over two decades, this creative tradition remains a vital platform for nurturing and showcasing the extraordinary talent of young artists. The latest iteration of this significant event took place at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur, from November 7 to November 11, 2025, marking yet another milestone in the university's commitment to artistic exploration.
The exhibition commenced with a distinguished opening ceremony, the event was inaugurated by Chief Guest Shri Rajesh Kumar Yadav, IAS, an officer of the 1996 batch (Rajasthan cadre) who has held key roles, including Principal Secretary for departments like Tourism, Art, Literature, Culture & Archaeology, and Director General of Jawahar Kala Kendra. The Guest of Honour was Shri Prayag Shukla, a highly regarded Indian poet, fiction writer, and pioneering Hindi art critic. Known for his extensive writings on Indian art over five decades, his presence lent significant prestige to the event and served as a profound source of inspiration for the participating student artists.
A particularly poignant highlight of the 23rd edition was a tribute to the beloved late Chancellor, Dr. Ashok Gupta. The event included the unveiling of his portrait and a relief, presented as a deeply felt token of gratitude.
This year’s exhibition featured the vibrant creativity of 138 students from the BFA and MFA programs, who collectively contributed approximately 2000 artworks. The diverse collection spanned traditional and contemporary disciplines, including Painting, Sculpture, Applied Arts ,Printmaking, Photography. The works notably highlighted students' engagement with experimental techniques and innovative mediums, pushing the boundaries of conventional artistic practice.
Abhivyakti acts as a crucial link between academic instruction and real-world artistic exposure, allowing students to translate classroom learning into tangible creative expressions. One of the most encouraging outcomes of Abhivyakti was its role in launching students into the commercial art sphere. Many students successfully sold their artworks, which amounted to a total worth of approximately ₹20,000, significantly boosting their confidence and enthusiasm for an art career. The list of successful sellers included a wide range of students and disciplines: BFA Sem I: Yashi Bikarwar and Tanuvi Khatri (Basic Design), Akshiya (Tempera), and Megha Kabra (Tempra). BFA Sem V: Nehal Jain and Charu Jain (Landscape). MFA Sem III: Megha Sharma, Yashika Ranwka , Aastha Sharma and Shiksha Sharma (all for Landscape work & Cityscape) and Aastha Sharma (Portrait).
A testament to the event's cultural significance, the 23rd edition of Abhivyakti received extensive coverage in various newspapers, including Dainik Bhaskar, Divya Rashtra, Mahanagar Times, Samachar Jagat News, Kamyab Kalam, Bedhadak, and Cityfirst. This widespread media attention helped bring the students' creativity to a broader public audience.
