Objective: 

The course will enable the students to gain an appreciation and understanding of portraits from ancient eras. They will develop insights into the tools, materials, and techniques employed during those times. Additionally, students will delve deeper by immersing themselves in the journey master artists may have taken while creating portraits. Ultimately, they will strive to reproduce finished replicas of ancient works, meticulously recreating features, face structure, rhythm, and balance.

Antique Portrait Study I

(Practical) 

CO16: Create sketches of antique portraits by old masters to grasp basic structures. Refine these portraits through recreation to develop skills akin to the old masters.

CO17: Make submissions demonstrating skill development by mastering tools and mediums from the chosen time period. Practice facial features and portraiture by recognizing different aesthetics and iconography of ancient civilizations, accurately replicating surface textures and colors.

CO18:  Interpret developed skills by analyzing portrait features to identify beauty standards of various eras. Discuss the molding and casting process, adhering to professional ethics.

CO19:  Contribute effectively in course-specific interaction.

Approach in teaching:

Interactive Lectures, Discussion on composition subjects, Tutorials, Videos, Demonstration 

Learning activities for the students:

Sketching, lay outing of composition, Self-learning assignments, Effective questions, presentation, Giving tasks, Field practical, handling of tools, machines, and casting and molding equipment.

Layouts and Sketches, Continuous Assessment Test, Semester End Examinations, Daily Assignments, Observation, Student Teacher Interaction and Final Submissions.

Study of portraits made by great masters (Greek, Roman, Western, Indian etc)

Submission: 2 works minimum.
