Objective: 

The course will enable the students to- 

 

  1. Students will be able to understand the intricacies of the process of metal casting, and understand the science behind the processes. 
  2. Judge the movement of metal and Construct hollow metal works using Brass, Bronze or Aluminum.
  3. Recognize the qualities and speciality of metal as a sculpting medium. 
  4. Add surface treatments on the casted work of arts according to their artistic sensibilities.

The students will -

 

CO200: Detecting, debating, experimenting with found objects, wires, other metallic objects to build forms and shapes they desire. 

 

CO201: Testing out processes like welding, rebiting, etc. to compose a sculpture with found metals or by joining 3-4 parts of casted metal. 

 

CO202: Observe and analyze profession foundry practices and trends and reimagine their own work accordingly while practicing industry ethics and requirements. 

 

CO203: Plan casting of a wax model in metal through both lost wax and sand casting method to be able to build professional industry ready sculptures in future. 

 

CO204: Demonstrate skills related to constructing hollow works in Metal like core making, core setting, placement of runners, connection of channels etc. in order to produce professional works that are less in weight and cost effective.

 

CO205:  Examine and execute different textures and surface finishes like patina, buffing etc using hand held abrasives tools of different types to construct a vocabulary of their desired aesthetic

Interactive Lectures, Discussion on composition subjects, Tutorials, Videos, Demonstration, Reading assignments.

Sketching, lay outing, Self-learning assignments, Effective questions, presentation, Giving tasks,  Field practical, handling of matrix, tools and varied materials , giving tasks to create sketches, layouts.

 

Semester end examinations, Continuous Assessment Test, Sketching, layouts Viva-Voice on display of artworks, Continuous Assessment Test, Quizzes, Solving problems in tutorials, Assignments, Presentation, Individual and regular submission.

COURSE CONTENT:

 

Flexible mould making and lost wax casting of composition suitable for metal casting with appropriate emphasis on technique.

  • 20 layout and drawing
