The Progressive Artists Group, Jaipur organized a four day Metal Scrap Sculpture Camp 2016 at the IIS University lawns in association with The Visual Arts Department, The IIS University and Art & Culture Department, Government of Rajasthan.
The camp was inaugurated on 5th September 2016 by the Chief Guest -Dr. Ashok Gupta, Vice Chancellor, The IIS University and Guest of Honour-Shri Rajendra Mishra, an eminent sculptor.
Junk, used household material, scrap of motor parts and electronic waste were collected from the junk dealer and were given to the artists (sculptors, painters and students) to reshape them into an artistic piece. Thirty two artists including Shri R.B Gauttam, President Progressive Artists Group, Dr. Bhawani Shanker Sharma, Camp Convenor Progressive Artists Group, Dr. Giriraj Sharma and Shri Hansraj Kumawat, Camp co-ordinators.
Based on their experience artists rediscovered the possibilities of molding the scrap into an artistic creation and created very unique and interesting sculptures which includes Chamunda mata, Buddha, Ganesha, dog, bathing lady, peacock, bird, tree, swing, dragon fly, flamingo, butterfly and few abstract forms. Around 48 artworks were created during this four day camp.
This camp helped the practicing students from the department of Visual Arts of various colleges like The IIS University, Rajasthan School of Arts, University of Rajasthan etc and also the artists to mold the scrap and create a conceptual form of art.
After completion of the camp, a two day exhibition was organized in the lawns of The IIS University which was inaugurated by eminent architects Mr. Sharad Maithel and his wife Mrs. Sangeeta Maithel. The exhibition was open for the visitors and art lovers on 9th & 10th September 2016 from 10:00 A.M.- 4:00P.M.
