The Department of Fine arts actively indulged in 'Kala Mahotsav’, a five-day art and cultural fest happened on 24-28 January 2024 at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur. The captivating premises of JKK served as an ideal backdrop for the exhibition, enhancing the overall ambiance and allure of the event. This was an enlightening and engaging event for the BFA and MFA students IIS (deemed to be University). The display of varied forms of art widened their vision towards the versatility of mediums, techniques, colours, surface materials and themes exhibited. It was also an opportunity for them to interact with the contemporary artists like Manish Sharma, Harishankar Balothia , Krishan Kundara and many others to seek future career advice in the field of painting and drawing. The interaction with miniature artist Viren Bannu encouraged students to look after traditional arts and importance of minute details in a work of art. Additionally, talk with renowned curator Hem Rana inspired students to learn the nuances of how to exhibit artworks allowing the viewers to appreciate the works displayed. Further, it was an experience that came as guidance to the students. Students learnt about the practical aspects of organizing and presenting their work in a public setting.          

The art exhibition at JKK encompassed a multifaceted display of artistic expression, including an impressive array of sculptures crafted from various materials. These sculptures served as captivating focal points within the exhibition, showcasing the versatility and ingenuity of the artists involved. From traditional stone and metal sculptures to more unconventional materials such as recycled materials and found objects, each sculpture conveyed its own unique narrative and aesthetic appeal. The tactile nature of the sculptures invited noticeable exploration, encouraging visitors to engage with the artworks on a sensory level and appreciate of the materials used. This range of artistic practices helped students of IIS to widen their creative vision. 

One of the highlights of Kala Mahotsav was the highly anticipated watercolor painting competition, which drew participation from budding artists across the exhibition from traditional landscapes and portraits to abstract compositions, each artwork demonstrated the unique artistic vision and skill of the participating artists. The MFA student of IIS University, Sakshi Agarwal won first prize in Watercolor category featured delicate washes and transparent layers, creating luminous and ethereal effects, while others embraced bold and expressive brushwork, imbuing the works with a sense of dynamism and vitality. 

 As the event drew to a close, the resonance of creativity lingered in the air, leaving an indelible mark on both participants and visitors alike. The art exhibition at JKK had not only celebrated artistic excellence but also served as a catalyst for cultural exchange and enrichment. With its captivating displays, engaging conversations, and memorable moments, the exhibition had succeeded in inspiring a renewed appreciation for the arts and fostering a sense of unity within the community. As attendees departed, they carried with them not only the memories of the event but also a newfound sense of inspiration and connection to the world of art. The overall outcome of the exhibition was resounding success fostering intellectual growth and collaborated learning. Students developed a heightened sense of aesthetic appreciation by engaging with diverse art forms, styles, and techniques presented in the exhibition. They also learnt ways in which they can convey their artistic narratives enabling them to present their art confidently. Exposure to diverse artworks inspired perspectives for their own work.
