Jaipur Tiger Festival with the support of the Forest Department organized a captivating Photography Exhibition capturing the majesty of tigers at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur from 29th July to 1st August 2023. IIS (Deemed to be University) provided students with the chance to have experiential learning while visiting the exhibition, allowed them to gain practical skills, and understand photography concepts. They were accompanied by Ms. Manika Sharma.
The event aimed to raise awareness about tiger conservation and showcase the beauty and significance of these majestic creatures through the lens of talented photographers which included some famous personalities such as Dr. Michael Debabrata Patra (Deputy Governor of RBI), Sir Pawan Arora (IAS), and actors Harshvardhan Rane & Rasha Thadani.
During the visit, they were also provided with an exceptional chance to interact with the esteemed jury members, Mr. Subbiah Nallahmutthu, Mr. Chris Brunskill, Mr. John Isaac, and Ms. Sitara Karthikeyan who are renowned photographers and wildlife experts.
On interacting personally with Sir Subbiah Nallahmutthu, the students learned about every aspect involved in wildlife photography. He has been awarded 5 national awards, produced 6 internationally recognized films on Tigers, and worked with the National Geographic. One of his renowned work ‘World’s most famous Tiger’ is available on ott platforms.
The exhibition served as a platform to grasp the importance of preserving our natural heritage and the vital role tigers play in maintaining the ecological balance. Tiger is the most majestic, powerful animal in the jungle. He is the savior of his territory but the population has been declining consistently. The Forest Department's initiative in this event has contributed significantly in creating a generation of environmentally conscious individuals.
The exhibition featured a diverse collection of photographs, each telling a unique story about tigers and their significance in the ecosystem. The photographers have skillfully portrayed the various aspects of the Tiger's life, family dynamics, and the intricate nuances of tiger behavior, from hunting and feeding to social interactions within their pride. By depicting the human-tiger interface, these photographs raise awareness about the impact of human activities on tiger populations and the urgent need for coexistence. The images reflect the emotional and intellectual depth of these animals.
They were able to learn and observe compositional techniques, the Golden ratio, and the Rule of thirds. Various photography techniques such as playing with the shutter speed, panning, long exposure shots, freezing movements, bokeh effect, and some silhouettes as well.
Overall, the photography exhibition was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on the students and the general public, fostering a deeper appreciation for the beauty and vulnerability of tigers in the wild.
